Relationship Building Blocks: Avoid Generalisation

There is peculiarity in everything in life. One must not make the mistake of treating people, and situations as though they are the same. Some generalize that men are unfaithful, while some others concludes that women are lovers of money.  In order to have a beautiful relationship and marriage, one must treat his/her partner different from the general opinion and should handle situations from their unique standpoint. An instance, you see a strange message on your partner's phone, it would be immature of you to immediately assume  anything when you haven't even asked him or her or thoroughly give the situation a thought.  It would be unfair for you to think the way your neighbor husband is, is the way your husband too, simply because they share some similarity in traits or behavior, which has not being proven true. We should learn to play the right card in our relationship, just like how we play it in WHOT game. We know just when to drop pick two, pick five, general market...

Relationship Building Block: Be Attentive.

To be loved back is the simplest thing to achieve, if you would love in the right way. It's not enough "To say I love you", but "To do I love you". There is no one you would truly be attentive to, that won't feel loved, and be motivated to love you back. It's not enough to just see things and hear people, be attentive to details, and listen to what is not shared, and seen. Be deliberate enough to go beneath the surface, be sensitive enough to go the extra miles when you are asked a mile. I have heard people say to me " I didn't even know there is a hole or need inside of me till you filled it", at other times another said "I didn't even know I need it, till you gave it", and amazingly, this people would give the earth just for me, and can make the heaven stand still for my sake. We must give value to be valuable. There is no free meal, and even if there is, it is best for it to be earned than to be given. Be conscious to inve...

Relationship Booster: Positive Reinforcement

If I want an action to be repeated over time, I know what to say and how to say it, that the actor will never stop doing it. But when a kind act or word is ignored, it simply means its of no significance to the receiver and don't want it repeated.  Whenever he does something of indescribable act, please try to find words to describe what he did. And whenever she does an unexplainable act, also find the adjective to explain it. This way you encourage each other to do more. It doesn't reduce anyone when you tell him/her, the good that has been done. And let it not be only when he/she does something bad, that your lips will only find expression. Because what we frequently recognise and appreciate is what will dominate. So let's be mindful of what we give our attention to. My friends and I will never deny ourselves such opportunities. We always spill it out, and it has sustained our friendship till date. Even my husband won't miss a chance and it has made us better couple t...

Relationship Booster: Power of Courtesy

“He who sows courtesy reaps friendship and he who plants kindness gathers love”. This has worked for my relationships in so many beautiful ways. Friends have turned family and strangers had turned great friends.  Nothing can take the place of politeness in human relationships, regardless of whether it’s formal or informal. It is a "need to do" many had overlooked and underestimated yet very useful.  By nature or nurture, I am a chat/text person than a call person. I prefer that medium of communication than a call except if need be. Oftentimes, I hear people show courtesy by asking me, if they can call me before putting a call across to me, even without knowing this nature of mine. This single gesture makes me go outside of myself to pick their calls regardless of my state of being.  Other times, when people who are entitled to some benefits from me and yet such people still act and talk as though it’s a privilege, it makes me go all out for them more than wha...

Relationship Booster: Breathing Space

Everyone needs a breathing space for healthy living and survival. Breathing space from things, places and people, even God had his one day out of seven days of the week, where he abstained from work, things and people and all he created and he desire us to do likewise. We must not overdo things, some people will work ten days out of the seven days of the week, head overworking ahead of the days and time while letting their relationship to suffer. My husband will often tell me the place of work in our marriage and it never exceeds there for anyone of us. We equally need breathing space sometimes away from our partner, as a lot of relationships suffer suffocation or choking by their partner, as they don’t have a single space for self. We might be couple, but we are also individuals and both sides of our lives must be respected and honored. Even couple sometimes need breathing space from their children, where they can both be together without interruption, that way they can arr...
